New FoodSpark Series (July–October): Food Legacies

FoodSpark's third series of 2018 kicks off July 14 to engage and explore the legacy of food in St. Louis with focus on the historic Ville neighborhood. This series is co-organized with Young Friends of The Ville, BJC Healthy Schools Healthy Communities Initiative, Good Life Growing, Missouri Coalition for the Environment, St. Louis Food Policy Coalition, and Northside Community Housing, Inc.

July 14: FoodSpark Potluck

Kick off this series with us through the FoodSpark potluck as we discuss how food access, justice, and traditions have look in our families, in our neighborhoods, and across the city.

Culinary Theme: Food My Grandma Made

For this potluck gathering, please bring a dish that reminds you of home. It can be a family recipe, an inspired-dish from your hometown, or even St. Louis fave. We will also have food graciously donated by Jaden's Diner, a soul food restaurant based in The Ville neighborhood.

  • July 28 | Neighborhood Food Canvas Day
    Join us as we get to know even more neighbors across The Ville in door-to-door conversations with this series' partners. Volunteer.
     
  • August 4 | Block Party in The Ville
    Young Friends of The Ville will co-host a full day block party to celebrate the neighborhood as families prepare for the new school year. We will also include a food giveaway via the gardens of Good Life Growing. 
     
  • August, Various Dates | FoodSpark X Community-hosted Dinners
    Continue conversations at the tables of our FoodSpark community as members host their own FoodSpark gatherings throughout the month of August. Volunteer to host.
     
  • September, Various Dates | FoodSpark Idea Kitchen
    If you have an idea for how to address local food challenges that are unearthed throughout the series, our Idea Kitchen will help you further develop your idea to pitch at The Spark crowdfundiing party. 
     
  • October 13 | The Spark
    Join us as we wrap up the Food Legacies series with our crowdfunding dinner party, The Spark. During this catered dinner, changemaking ideas will be pitched, and through the vote of the audience, one creator will receive a microgrant to help grow their idea.
