The FOODSPARK #36: POTLUCK SCREENING OF LA92 WITH BLACK CINEMA CLUB event proved to be an emotional provocation as the historical accounts of the 1992 LA Riots (following the beating of Rodney King) revealed present-day reminders of the unrising that flows from the grounds of St. Louis (following both the 2014 police murders of Michael Brown and others as well as the recent not-guilty verdict of officer, Jason Stockley, who killed Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011).

Following a half-hour of mingling over movie-themed snacks and dishes, event collaborators opened the event with introductions and set the contexts of the film. Attendees spent two hours watching LA92, and upon tearful reactions from many, discussion followed. Because the room was ripe with reactions, conversation leaders decided to hold space for the thoughts, connections, insights, and expressions that everyone offered. During which, questions for discussion were reserved to honor the authentic conversation that flowed throughout the room.
